Homemade Pan de Sal

Pandesal (Spanishh: pan de sal means salt bread) is a rounded bread made of flour, butter, yeast, sugar, and salt. It has become a common food in the Philippines especially during breakfast. Coffee and pan de sal during breakfast is surely a good start of the morning for the Filipino people.

Ingredients:

1 cup milk
56 grams butter (100% dairy product)
1 cup warm water(40*C)
2 tbsp  sugar (or more if you want it sweeter)
1 tsp salt
1 pack norwegian yeast(50 grams) Dry or fresh will do, just follow the exact measurement on how much yeast u need  equivalent to the flour you will use.( depends upon the country where you are living)
500-550 grams flour
bread crumbs

Procedure:

Warm the milk and butter in a pan. Melt the yeast with a little amount of boiled water just to loosen it if its dry.

I use my kitchen machine in making my pan de sal , you can also use your hands for manual mixing.

Pour the warm milk and butter in the kitchen machine bowl, followed by the warm water , sugar ,salt and yeast.

Add flour gradually and mix for around 3 minutes or until the dough looks fine and shiny.

Let it rise until it doubles it size.(in a room temperature)

Take the dough out from the bowl. Use extra flour so that it will not stick in your hands while you are forming your pan de sal.

Knead the  dough very well and divide it into two. Make a sausage like form and divide it into pieces.

Sprinkle the dough with some bread crumbs. You can also  roll the sausage  dough on the bread crumbs before cutting it into small pieces.( Look at the pic below)

Arrange the dough in the oven plate and let it rise for around 30 mins. in a room temperature.
(or until it double its size). Cover it with a cloth.

Bake the pan de sal dough in the preheated oven at 225*C (437*F) for 10 mins.

Enjoy your breakfast with coffee and pan de sal:)
